William “Bill” Jackson

William “Bill” Jackson

William

William Leo Jackson (83) — also known as Bill, Billy, “Whiskey” Bill, Uncle Bill, Daddy Bill, Dad, and our beloved “Beppa” — did not pass away quietly on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. He went out in the most Bill Jackson way.

He had just hit a fantastic drive on Hole 5 at the Hartford Golf Course. Walking up to his second shot, he collapsed. Hartford’s heroic first responders did everything they could — and we are eternally grateful for their efforts — but he ultimately died at Hartford Hospital at 2:25 p.m.

We can only imagine he would have birdied that hole.

It makes it easier for all of us to say he died doing what he loved — and he did. But we were not ready. And now we must fill the big Bill Jackson–sized hole in our lives.

Bill was born May 9, 1942, in Clintonville, WI. He spoke fondly of the family farm and growing up in Hartford. He had a lifelong love of sports — bowling, tennis, and of course golf — but one of his proudest moments was winning the 1959 Little Ten Conference wrestling crown with three straight victories. He kept the clipping for the rest of his life.

As a young man, Bill proudly served his country in the Navy, sailing around the world and bravely standing watch during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

His work ethic was unmatched. He managed the best produce departments at Sentry Foods and other local stores, setting a standard of quality everyone remembers.

In retirement, Bill didn’t slow down. He generously volunteered his time, enjoyed his grandkids’ recitals, concerts, soccer and basketball games, and served for several years on the board at the Country Club.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Art, Maggie (Leo), Brother Chuck (Helen), brothers-in-law Billy and Don and, of course, Bobby.

He is survived by his lifelong love Donna; his son Tyler (Jenny); his daughter Jennie (Brian); and the grandchildren no grandpa ever loved more: Lanette, Jordyn, James, Sean, and step-grandson Charlie.

He’s also survived by his brother Art (Julie), sisters Shirley and Pat, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, especially his best friend Rich, who he had known since first grade. And by all of you at the Country Club whom we feel like we know because he talked about you so much.

When someone dies, it’s common to think of things left unsaid. Lucky for us, Bill never left anything unsaid. He said it loud and proud, and that’s one of the greatest gifts he leaves behind. If he loved you, you knew it. (If he didn’t… well, good luck to you.)

And his laugh will go down in history as one of the best laughs in the world. Period.

A service will be held at Shimon Funeral Home (824 Union St., Hartford, WI 53027) on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 p.m. until the start of service at 2:30 p.m. Further celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Hartford Golf Club (7072 Lee Rd., Hartford WI 53027) starting at 4:00 p.m.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Hartford’s first responders and to the staff at Hartford Golf Course for the support and kindness they gave without hesitation.

Bill never wanted to get old. And even at 83, he never did.

Beppa, we love you and miss you more than these words can ever say.
