Wanda Buck

Wanda Faye Murphy Buck, 93, of Harrison, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Hillcrest Home in Harrison.

Wanda was born June 19, 1932, in Boone County, to Lonnie Newt and Ida Mae Murphy. She graduated from Bergman High School where she was a member of the women’s basketball team. On November 14, 1953, she married the love of her life, Martin Lee “M. L.” Buck, and they are now reunited. Their life was full of love, laughter, and most of all, family.  While M. L. was the lighthouse that guided our family home, Wanda was the home. She was warm, steady, and always there when we needed her. Her home had an open-door policy for anyone that knew our family. You could show up and swing those doors open knowing you would find Wanda right there in her kitchen guarding the cookie jar from M. L. with a grin. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Attending Northvale Baptist Church was important to her, shaping the values and love she shared with everyone around her. Wanda’s playful and mischievous spirit carried her through life, and she never stopped sticking her tongue out at those around her when she wanted us to smile. That memory will continue to make us all smile. In her final years, Wanda was lovingly cared for by the amazing and compassionate staff at Hillcrest Nursing Home, who provided comfort, kindness, and dignity. Their care gave our family tremendous peace of mind over the years. The love they showered over her, and on our family during her final days, will live on in our hearts forever. For that we are deeply grateful. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Survivors include her children, Vicki (Don) Baker, Sherry (Phil) Guffey, Sheila (Alan) Evans, Tammie (Stuart) Braznell, and Jeff (Anita) Buck; her grandchildren, Christy (Chris) Stubbs, Craig (Christine) Smith, Courtney Braznell, Amanda (Chris) Armstrong, J. P. Guffey, Jessica Evans, Rebecca (Travis) Bramley, Katelyn (Dustin) Sims, and Gavin Cantrell; her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jett, Paige, Leyton, Eva, Jasper, Carson, and Greyson; and other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Hopewell Cemetery near Harrison.  Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
