Virginia Ballew

Virginia “Ginger” Ballew, age 69, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025.

Ginger was a devoted mother, sister, cousin, and friend. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—fishing, four-wheeling through the red Georgia mud, and making memories outdoors—whether it was on the trail, by the water, or just laughing under the open sky. She was a great listener and trusted confidant, always ready with honest advice, a warm heart, and a sense of humor that drew people in. She had a gift for bringing light and laughter into any moment.

Ginger was fearless, quick-witted, and deeply loyal. She never backed down from what she believed in and cared for others with a fierce, steady heart. True to her Ballew roots, she was as hardheaded as they come—but that was part of her charm. Her stubborn streak, sense of humor, and way of turning ordinary moments into memorable stories made her unforgettable.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Aden Ballew and Frances Marilee Frazier, as well as her sister, Sandra Frances Ballew.

Ginger is survived by her loving son, Jesse Green (Keemia); her partner of many years, Vernon Freeman; and her sisters, Barbara Lee (Jim) and Jeanie Vickers (Nolan).

She also leaves behind a cherished extended family of nieces and nephews: Brian Lee (Stephanie), Kelli Lee, Jeff Barfield (Kelly), and Bonnie Barfield.

Great nieces and nephews: Cameron and Chase Slagle; Makenna, Brooklyn, Collins, and Race Lee; Emma, Helaina, Loretta Rose, and Turner Barfield; and Charlotte Barfield.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 26th at Logan Funeral Home & Chapel, 357 Dalton St, Ellijay, GA 30540, with Pastor Ken Neybert officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.

Private interment will follow at the Ellijay City Cemetery.

The family is accepting flowers in memory of Ms. Ballew.
