Virgil “Virg” Donald Deppmeier, 94, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on June 20, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California. He was born on August 24, 1930, in Havre, Montana, to George C and Doris E (Lucas) Deppmeier.

Virg graduated from Havre High School in 1949. He proudly served his country with the Marines in Korea, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. After his military service, he attended Montana State University in Bozeman, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

On September 20, 1956, Virg married Pat Peiton, and together they shared 68 years of devoted marriage. Virg worked as a Mechanical Engineer, initially for Douglas and then dedicating over 30 years to Lockheed.

He was an active member of St. Simon Catholic Church in Los Altos, California, where he enjoyed coaching many sports teams. Virg was also known for his dedication to walking, maintaining a routine of six miles a day well into his 90s.

Virg was preceded in death by his parents, George and Doris Deppmeier, his brothers Ed, Arnold, Lynn, Gil, and Larry Deppmeier, and his daughter-in-law Jen Deppmeier.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughter Mary (Dan) Fehrenbacher; his sons Matt (Janet), Paul, John (Katherine Giusto), Steve (Lourdes), Tim (Chris), and Tom (Michele) Deppmeier. He is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Robbins and Miriam Kinzel, and many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Hospice doctors and nurses for the exceptional care they provided to Virg.

A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at St. Simon Church in Los Altos, California, on September 27th.
