Veronica Maguire, surrounded by her loving family, passed peacefully away the morning of July 26, 2025, at the age of 92.
A great-grandmother of five, a grandmother of 14, the amazing mom of eight, a loving aunt to 40 nieces and nephews, and a friend and inspiration to all who knew her, she filled the world with love. She would often say that there are no strangers, only friends she hasn’t met yet.
Veronica Kearns was born on a picturesque hillside in the village of Fargureens, town of Balla, in County Mayo, Ireland. She was the twelfth of thirteen children born to Ellen and Thomas Kearns. Veronica, and her twin Virginia, emigrated from Ireland when they were 15 and made their way to New York City when they were 17. There, Veronica met Michael Columba (Colm) Maguire, where they fell in love and married in 1954. Veronica and Colm raised their eight children in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where the children all attended OLA. In 1991, they moved to Scottsdale, Az. where they lived together until Colm’s passing in 2004. Veronica continued to be the matriarch of her growing family and remained very involved in her faith.
Veronica is survived by
– her children: Dr. Brian Maguire (Dr. Barbara O’Neill), Maureen, Eileen (Mark) Reali, Dolores (Stephen) Farrell, Kevin, Sean, Paul (Josephine), and Sheila;
– fourteen grandchildren: Mariann and Michael Kline; Aaron and Laura, David, Leah, and Matthew Reali; Brianna, Thomas, Abigail and Michael Maguire; Paul and Mathew Maguire; and Lily Maguire; and
– five great-grandchildren: Victoria and Ethan Kline; and Lucy, Mary and Luke Reali.
Veronica rarely had a conversation where she could not find an opportunity to say: “Praise the Lord.” She attended Grace Chapel and prayer group meetings with her friends including Lucy Romanella, Tim and Josie Dean, Dolores, Linda, Kathy, Patricia and her many other dear friends. She had a decades-long friendship with Rose Biesty.
Veronica is predeceased by her husband Colm, her 12 siblings, and their parents. She will be forever remembered for her love, strength, and kindness. She will be missed more than words can express.
Services will be held at Messinger’s at 7601 E. Indian School Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. The viewing will be August 1 from 5 to 8pm, and the ceremony will be August 2 from 10am to noon. For more information, visit:
