- July 28, 2025

Much later than he expected but in God’s perfect timing, Veon O. Glover of Star City completed his earthly sojourn and was called home to Heaven on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born in December 1929, he was the eldest of three sons of the late Bro. Veo Glover and Retha Owen Glover and was a lifelong resident of Star City.
Some time after graduating from Star City High School, he says he asked God for the perfect wife. He soon met Bobbye Tucker of Yorktown (Lincoln County) whom he married in 1951 just after her 18th birthday. His father officiated the ceremony. The marriage lasted 69 years before her death in 2020. He missed her every day.
In addition to his parents and wife, Veon was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Lavoy Glover of East Texas.
Veon and Bobbye grew up during the Great Depression era and learned the value of hard work from their parents. As teenagers, both had worked various jobs, including picking cotton, to help pay for school clothes and supplies. In recent recollections, Veon smiled as he related that, as a young married couple, they had still picked cotton a few times, and that petite Bobbye could best him making $6.00 to his $4.00 for a day’s work.
For many years, starting in 1948, Veon was a pressman and printer for the weekly Lincoln Ledger newspaper at Star City and later worked four years for IP in Pine Bluff. From 1968 until his retirement in 1990, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Star City.
Veon was an active member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church near Star City until health issues kept him at home, although he still took care of his home and yard until July 2024 when he became a resident of The Blossoms at Star City (formerly Gardner Nursing Home).
Survivors include one brother, Joe Trelon Glover (Cathy) of Pine Bluff; a son, Bentley Glover (Jacque) of Mountain Home; two daughters, Rhonda Dishner of Pine Bluff and Theresa Webb (Gene) of Palm Coast, FL; four grandchildren, Raney Dishner of White Hall, Barrett Dishner (Laura) of New Mexico, Brannon Carter (Robin) of Spartanburg, SC, and Amber Manson of Palm Coast; and four great-granddaughters, Chloe Kilcrease of Little Rock, and Abby, Keira and Emily Dishner of New Mexico.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:00 AM Saturday, August 2, with funeral services starting at 10:00 AM at the Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City with Bro. David Harrington officiating. Family burial will follow at Leek Cemetery at Star City. Memorials can be made to Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, c/o 1042 Joyner Road, Star City, AR 71667.
