Tikataake Taberannang
It is with profound sorrow and endless love that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Tikataake Taberannang, on July 23rd while visiting his homeland of Kiribati. Known by some as “Taki”, others as “CK”, “Baba” to his children and known by ALL as a sweet gentle soul.
Tikataake leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 20 years, Heidi Bowen, and their two wonderful boys Sabera (16) and Baylee (14). In the United States he leaves his mother-in-law Ray Bowen, father-in-law Bill Bowen, sister and brother-in-law Heather Bowen and Carlos Zalduondo, his nieces Lily and Sofi and his “Wheeler St. family”. In Kiribati, he is predeceased by his father, Taberannang Tekiera, and his brother, Tokautu. He was buried in Kiribati with his father and his big loving family around him including his mother, Tiaroka, older brother, Teawaki, sisters and spouses, Terao (Naura), Tekan (Tokitebwa), Tiria (Motete), Tearei (Tetuai), and 14 nephews and nieces: Channel, Ribwai, Takare, Merean, Teroa, Monika, Rarikinnang, Tioti, Taberannang, Tokautu, Teitinako, Tiaroka, Antonio, and Anna. He also leaves behind countless family members, friends, and his co-workers at Hannaford Supermarket in Leominster.
Tikataake was a skilled fisherman in his country using traditional methods that he learned from his father. Although he hadn’t quite mastered the art of fishing in the U.S., he could often be found trying at Barrett Park or while vacationing, particularly in Wells, ME and OBX, NC. He was also admired by his close friends and Kiribati community as a songwriter and beautiful lyricist. He has written countless songs for others and had a lovely, melodic voice. Tikataake also loved gardening and would spend his free time outside tending to his flowers and grass if he wasn’t watching his boys play sports. Tikataake’s most wonderful accomplishment was raising two amazing boys. His kindhearted nature, known by all, will live on through them.
Please join us in celebrating his life at Monoosnock Country Club, 40 Monoosnock Drive, Leominster, on Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 2 until 5PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider an act of kindness in honor of Tikataake.
