Thelma Reed

Thelma Marie (Tremaine) Reed, of Hallsville, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on January 5, 1945, to Lawrence and Lillie (Nowlin) Tremaine.

A proud graduate of Hickman High School, Thelma built a long and successful career in insurance underwriting with MFA which has since changed to Shelter Insurance. She retired in 2007, ready to dedicate her time to the people and passions she cherished most.

Thelma was a proud member of “The S.A.B.’s Club,” a close-knit circle of seven lifelong friends who shared laughter, cards, and countless adventures together. While the club’s name carried a bit of playful mischief, it perfectly captured the sharp humor and spirited bond Thelma brought to every gathering.

Known for her love of counted cross-stitch, crafts, and all charming things, Thelma’s home was a reflection of her heart, every trinket, photo, and keepsake carefully placed and filled with meaning. She had a gift for making spaces feel warm and stories feel treasured.

Thelma’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Bobby (Lori) Reed and Julie (Gary) Chandlee; her sister, Margaret Nichols; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lawrence “Jr.” Tremaine and his wife Mary Ann, her brother-in-law Carl “Nenie” Nichols, and her grandson Michael Chandlee.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27, at Park Lane Community Church in Hallsville, Missouri, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the church after the service, with graveside services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, Missouri.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The S.A.B.’s Club, to help keep the girls busy and having fun, or to Park Lane Community Church. Checks may be made payable to Bonnie Durk or to the church.
