Susan Wood

Susan Jane Wood, age 69 of Fort Mill, SC, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after a lionhearted fight with breast cancer. Susan had a deep and intimate relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We take comfort in knowing that she is among the angels now and will live in eternity.

She was born to Fred and Janey Cooper on June 29th, 1955, in Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Harry K. Wood III, and her daughter Lisa R. Calvert. Susan attended Scarborough High School before attending the University of Texas. She loved classical music and ballet. She studied at the Swayze School of Dance before performing with the Houston Ballet.

She worked in real estate and in the mortgage industry for many years. She thrived in helping others as it was her true calling. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC, and recently, Carolinas Cornerstone Church in Fort Mill, SC. A special thanks to Pastor Barry, who spent many days with Susan at the end of her time on Earth.

Susan did not know a stranger and was a friend to all that she crossed paths with, especially the four-legged variety. Her infectious smile and sunny personality will be greatly missed. Susan is survived by her daughter Michelle L. Wood, her granddaughter, Amelia G. Calvert, her brothers, Tim and Larry Cooper, other loving relatives, and countless close friends. A special mention to her dear friend, Kathy Baker, to her loving and wonderful cousins, and Aunt Virginia Cooper Knop.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 26th from 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm at Bullington Gardens in Hendersonville, NC https://www.bullingtongardens.org/. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Breast Cancer Foundation https://www.abcf.org/. Shuler Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
