WARREN, OHIO – Susan Leona Jurich Garvin, age 93, entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 20, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born August 23, 1932 in Tacoma, Washington, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (Scarborough) Jurich.
After graduating from Ballard High School in Seattle, Washington, Susan went to a USO dance, where she met Charles J. Garvin, a soldier stationed at Fort Lewis. They were married July 23, 1955 and settled in Ohio. Susan worked at Packard Electric for thirty-three years and later was a news reporter for the Packard Electric 717 Retirees.
She had been a member of the former St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she had been active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed a host of activities, from shopping to family get-togethers, from bowling to gardening to spending quality time with friends. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital for many years and used to write short stories.
Precious memories of Susan live on with four sisters: Marla Kelly (Dick) of Poulsbo, Washington, Julie Pappe of Bothell, Washington, Marcie Vitalich of Washington state, and Angela Bosch (Jim) of Seattle; her sister-in-law, Jennie Garvin of Warren, Ohio; two nephews, Dan (Lenay) of Warren and David Hudak of Valrico, Florida; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and their families.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her stepfather and stepmother; her beloved husband of fifty years, Charles J. Garvin, who passed January 26, 2006; her brother, Joe Jurich; two sisters, Sallie Fingarson and Joyce Sorenson; three brothers-in-law: John Pappe, Ben Hudak, and John Garvin; and her sister-in-law, Helen D. (Garvin) Hudak.
A memorial service will be conducted in Washington state at a later date. Susan’s urn will be laid to rest next to her husband at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna, Ohio.
