Beloved Brother, Devoted Son, Loyal Friend
Mr. Steve Richard Knight was born on Wednesday, April 17th, 1985, to Mrs. Andrea Knight and Mr. Rupert Knight at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York. He departed this life on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, NY.
As the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Knight, Steve joined his older sister Joy and completed the family. From an early age, Steve demonstrated a clever and fun-loving curiosity about life, family, and fun. Steve attended Community School C.S. 77 on Ward Avenue, where he met his best friend, Mr. Terry Devonish, in his kindergarten class, K-10. Steve later continued his education at Junior High School I.S. 116, followed by Samuel L. Gompers, and graduated from Adlai Stevenson High School.
As you can see, Steve loved the Bronx! During his adolescence and adult years, Steve developed long-lasting friendships that gave him opportunities to be a caring friend who was deeply involved in the care and well-being of those he held dear. Steve always kept his parents’ door open to help those in need. Whether it was offering extra plates of food to share, cooking for others, assisting with tasks like moving or repairing something, donating clothing to someone in need, or simply lending a listening ear, Steve was always ready to lend a hand with a generous heart. Always a jokester, Steve could be counted on to share the funniest jokes to lift the mood. Steve also loved his local sports teams and was an avid Mets fan! Steve had a servant’s heart, and he did what he could by any means to help anyone.
Steve worked various jobs throughout his life, but he thrived as a Records Coordinator at Harris, Beech, and Murtha. He was a faithful and dedicated employee whom his colleagues highly respected and appreciated. Always ready to lend a hand, Steve shared his talents not only in records but also through recipes, IT tools and tricks, great music, and his gregarious and kind nature. His smile and cool, calm demeanor were a lifesaver. Steve excelled at building lasting relationships and friendships with his colleagues, and he truly loved what he did every single day with his favorite colleagues. A dedicated employee, Steve worked tirelessly and was committed to always sharpening his technique.
After a brief but devastating illness, Steve departed this life on the morning of Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:29 am at the tender age of 40, surrounded by his parents and his sister. Steve was courageous and fought to the very end with all that he had. When doctors counted him out, God counted him in, until he was ready to be with our Lord and Savior. His gregarious nature, infectious smile, love of life, and being there for those he loved will never be forgotten. Our lives will never be the same, as he leaves behind a legacy of goodness, light, selflessness, and devotion to family and friends. Steve’s words ring true now more than ever— “Make the most of your time.” And we thank God that our dearly beloved Brother, Son, and Friend made the most of his time here.
Steve is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Norris Knight and Hermina Daniels; his maternal grandparents, Nelrine Milwood and Llewellyn Samuel; his uncle, Victor Samuel; his aunt, Brazilia “Angel” Brown; Godparents Pamela and Philmore Cornelius; and his cousins, Julie Thomas, Joslyn Thomas, and Jean Thomas. Left to carry on his memory are his parents, Andrea and Rupert Knight, his sister, Joy Knight, Aunts Tracelyn Samuel, Christiana Samuel, and Gwendolyn Carr, Great-Aunt Marie Melchoir, and Uncles Junior Samuel and Peter Joseph. Cousins Matara Thomas, Alvin Thomas, Lorenzo Thomas, Laron Thomas, Arian Green-Josiah, Cavelle Francis, Denise Francis, Damon & Lorie Merrick, Dr. Jacqueline Jeffries, Kayla Pluviose, Elijah Creel and Dr. Rene Martin and a host of cousins in NY, GA and Antigua, W.I. Godfathers Jean Diggs and Evroy Mike, Best Friend of over three decades, Terry Devonish, “Mom-Mom” Monique McCarthy, cherished friends Mike, Joe, Ricardo, Derwin, Hugh, Joseph, Derrick, Candice, Kadesja, Stephen, Lamar, his gaming crew, Manor Avenue/Watson Avenue family, his friends and colleagues at Harris, Beach and Murtha, countless children who knew him as “Uncle Steve” or “Mr. Steve”, the friends, residents of his beloved home on McGraw Avenue in Parkchester, and a host of cherished friends and family. He will be lovingly and eternally missed by all who knew, loved, and deeply appreciated him.
