Stephen Pecylak

Stephen Pecylak of Shelton, CT passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025.

Stephen was born on September 4, 1929 at home in Shelton, CT to Demko and Annie Pecylak. Stephen loved Shelton and after service in the military began teaching in Shelton Public schools until he retired from Shelton High School in 1992.

In 1958, Stephen married his sweetheart, Marie and was married for 62 years until her passing in 2021. Shortly after getting married Steve and Marie moved to Stratford where they resided for almost fifty years. Wherever he lived, Stephen always loved to garden and watch his beloved Detroit Tigers and UCONN Men’s and Women’s basketball. Upon retiring, Stephen embraced his favorite role in life as Poppy to his six grandchildren whom he loved to play with and support in all their extracurricular activities.

He is survived by his three children, Gail (Richard) Colberg, Stephen John (Kathryn) Pecylak, and Paula (Jeffrey) Hackenjos; his grandchildren Kristen (Morgan), Allison (Colin), Michael (Jaclyn), David (Allyson), Fr. Daniel, and Brian. In addition he is survived by his four great grandchildren; Kennedy, Austin, Hayden, and Lily. In addition to his wife, Stephen was predeceased by his five siblings. He is also survived by his nieces Jacqueline, Peggy, and Laura.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Crosby Commons and Bishop Wicke in Shelton where Stephen has resided the past four years.

Stephen’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2611 Main St., Stratford, CT on Wednesday, August 6,from 9 AM-10:30 AM. His funeral procession will then leave the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name of Jesus Church,1950 Barnum Ave., Stratford at 11 AM. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a local charity or organization of your choice.
