St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City is delighted to announce the appointment of the Reverend Dr. Donna McNiel as its Priest-in-Charge. With a distinguished career in ordained ministry spanning 22 years, Dr. McNiel brings a wealth of experience in campus ministry, interfaith engagement and community leadership to St. Peter’s.

Since 2018, Dr. McNiel has served as Missioner to Michigan State University, fostering spiritual growth and support for the campus community. She previously served as Associate Priest at All Saints Episcopal Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, both closely connected to Michigan State University. Her journey has also included roles as Multi-faith Chaplain at The University of the Pacific and Executive Director of the New Mexico Conference of Churches.

Born and raised in New Mexico, Dr. McNiel considers the Land of Enchantment her heart’s home. She earned her Master of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and later completed her Doctor of Ministry at the Episcopal Divinity School in 2008. A passionate traveler, she has lived and worked in Switzerland and India, broadening her global perspective and deepening her commitment to diverse faith traditions.

Dr. McNiel is thrilled to return to the Western U.S. and looks forward to immersing herself in the rich heritage of Northern Nevada. Most importantly, she is eager to embrace the St. Peter’s community, serving its congregation with faith and dedication.

“Worship is at the heart of our community,” she says. “I am excited to serve a single congregation, to walk alongside St. Peter’s in faith, and to celebrate the Episcopal tradition’s depth and openness to spiritual exploration. I firmly believe God has called us together and will give us grace to do more than we can ask or imagine.”

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is located at 300 N. Division Street, on the corners of Division and Telegraph in Carson City. All are Welcome and invited to join in worship each Sunday at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. as Dr. McNiel leads the congregation in prayer, reflection, and community-building.
