The Silver Palooza Music and Art Festival will be returning to the Silver City Schoolhouse and Park June 21, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., bringing the free event of live music, art, history, and fun together for another year.
This is the fifth year of the festival, which takes place at 385 High Street in Silver City (nestled in the foothills between Mound House and Virginia City).
This year’s event will feature live music from a variety of genres including folk, blues, funk, pop and rock n roll.
“Silver Palooza isn’t just a free festival, it’s an experience,” a spokesperson wrote.
Silver City became a quiet hub of artistic expression following the cultural revolution of the 1960s. Many people say that the Summer of Love ended in Virginia City, which at the time played host to a number of famous or soon to be famous musical acts.
Many of the art and music lovers decided to stay in Silver City, which had fallen into an empty ghost town after the Comstock lode ran out.
“It became a hub of artistic, cultural and intellectual expression,” the spokesperson wrote. “Silver Palooza is a gathering to celebrate that heritage and invite the wider community of Northern Nevada and eastern California to experience it.”

- Live bands including Margret’s Funk Band, Gary Wheeler Band and Darren Senn, alongside an eclectic mix of up-and-coming and established acts including MW featuring Mylo McCormick, Steve Funk, Betty & James and The Fourth Generation.

In addition, Silver City has been working on a community mural in the Silver City Park for the past year. The Silver City Preservation Society received a grant from the Nevada Arts Council to design and paint the mural, and enlisted Tridentata Arts to facilitate the design process and painting.
The mural will be unveiled during the event for all to see.
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Virginia City’s historic music venue Red Dog Saloon, there will be a screening of the documentary film “The Life and Time of the Red Dog Saloon” by Mary Work, and a Q&A with the filmmaker. The Red Dog Saloon was founded by Silver City Residents in the mid-1960s. There will also be a display of vintage Red Dog Saloon memorabilia.

About the Silver City Preservation Society and their sponsors
The Silver City Preservation Society (SCPS) is the producer and lead sponsor of Silver Palooza. SCPS is a 501c3 nonprofit formed to manage the Schoolhouse building and develop community programs and art and culture programming. Proceeds from the bar, food stands, auction, and donations support the Silver City Preservation Society.
We are also grateful for the generous support of grant, cash and in-kind sponsorship from Lyon County, Carson Nancy, Cassinelli Construction, Evangeline Presents, Yellow Truck Productions and the Red Dog Saloon.
Silver City Arts is a committee of local residents who help produce arts and culture programming in Silver City. Silver City Arts volunteers graciously help with setup, clean up, run the bar and food stands and help with all aspects of production. We could not put on Palooza without them and are deeply grateful for their support.
