Shelly Denise Kane, age 60, of Fairmount, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 7:30 am on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion.
Born on August 31, 1965, in Anderson, Indiana, Shelly was the beloved daughter of Joyce Kane. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Shelly dedicated over 25 years of her life as a bus driver for Marion Community Schools, retiring with love and pride for the students she served–especially those with special needs. Her compassion and caregiving spirit were shaped early in life, caring for her deaf grandmother, Granny Robertson, which inspired her career path.
Shelly had a vibrant personality and a heart full of generosity. She loved Bingo–her favorite pastime–and scratch-off tickets. Her grandbabies were her world, and she was deeply proud of her daughter, Amber. Shelly enjoyed puzzles, sewing, crocheting, and crafting. She had a special fondness for owls and loved collecting owl-themed items. Always putting others before herself, Shelly was known for her giving nature and her ability to care deeply for those around her.
She is survived by her mother, Joyce Kane; her step-father, Jim Kane; her daughter, Amber (Austin Kern) Kane of Marion; her grandchildren, James Russell (special friend, Tanner Henry) and Graycie Nicole Kern; her best friend, Staci Brechbiel; and numerous cherished friends.
Shelly was preceded in death by her dear friend, Debbie Hart, and her grandmother, Granny Robertson.
Shelly will be remembered as a devoted mother, loving grandmother, loyal friend, and a woman with a heart of gold. Her legacy of kindness and care lives on in all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following visitation, a memorial service for Shelly will begin at 5:00 pm.
