Sandra McGuire

August 14, 1942 – July 8, 2025

Sandra as she was known was born Alexandrina in Poyntzfield Resolis, Scotland to Christopher and Eveline MacKenzie. Her early years were spent in Dingwall, Scotland. As a young girl the family moved down to Kailzie Gardens in the borders area. When she finished secondary school, she enrolled in a nursing program. This was only one of many career paths Sandra would take. It wasn’t long before her adventurous spirit had Sandra taking a job in California as an au pair when she was 19-years-old. When Sandra landed, in San Francisco all she had was an employer address, $25 dollar and a new friend Louise, whom she met on the flight. She instantly found out that the au pair job wasn’t as advertised so Sandra and Louise quickly started a house cleaning venture in the big mansions of San Francisco’s Pacific Heights. In 1960, she met the love of her life, Tommy McGuire, after the two were introduced by Fr. Mohr. This introduction was only possible as Sandra, who had been raised Protestant, was in the process of converting to Catholicism. They would soon be married, would have two sons, move from SF to Brisbane then lastly to the family home in the Sunshine Gardens section of SSF. It was during her early years that Sandra met her two lifelong friends Jane McGonnell and Charlotte McDonagh who were like aunts to her two sons. At this time Sandra who was an avid bowler began working at Swanson’s Westlake Bowl as the Daytime General Manager. After the bowl closed Sandra followed her true passion and opened up her own travel agency which she called “Fairway Travel”. This job gave Sandra the opportunity to travel all over the world with her best friend Jane joining her on many of these excursions. Some of Sandra’s other hobbies included late night weekend card games, dancing, knitting, sewing & crossword puzzles. Sandra was always her happiest when all of her grandson’s would be over for the holidays. Sandra was predeceased by her Parents and siblings Evan & Rosemary; she is survived by her brothers Christopher (Ann) in Galashiels, Scotland and Billy (Margaret) in Aberdeen, Scotland. Sandra also leaves behind two son’s Tom (Leslie) & Chris (Yolanda) and five grandson’s Conor (Krystal), Ryan (Elena), Ian (Tatiana), Kyle (Martha) & Tyler (Paola) and one great grandson baby Ian. She will be missed dearly. We would like to also thank; Bhing, Arthur & Christine for their compassionate care.

Memorial Service, Friday, August 22, 2025, 6PM, Garden Chapel, 885 El Camino Real, So. San Francisco.
