Sam Anderson Jr.
- June 25, 2025

Sam Anderson, Jr. was born on October 22, 1952, in Isola, Mississippi, to the late Sam Anderson, Sr. and Quida Claiborne. He was the third of five children born to this union.
Sam accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He completed his high school education at Gentry High School in Indianola, Mississippi. On June 9, 1973, he was united in holy matrimony to Joyce Holmes in Chicago, Illinois. Their loving union was blessed with five children.
In his early adult years, he found joy in working as both a mechanic and a carpenter, and he especially enjoyed driving a cab—a profession he took great pride in. He later joined Showers of Blessings Deliverance Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Jessie Wright. Sam was known for his love of music/sports and dancing—joys that brought light to his life and the lives of those around him.
Sam was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and love. He faced life’s joys and trials with quiet strength, faith, and commitment to his love ones.
He was preceded in death by one son, two grandsons, two sisters, and two brothers.
Sam Anderson, Jr. departed this life on Sunday, June 22, 2025. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Joyce Anderson of Acworth, GA; two sons, Michael (Janet) Holmes of Lafayette, IN and Nathaniel Anderson of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Joyce Brown of Markham, IL, and Dr. Sharitha (Raymond) Herring of Acworth, GA; one brother, Nathaniel Anderson of St. Paul, MN; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces—including a favorite, Torra Holmes—nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Sam’s legacy of love, music, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
