Roy Hancock

Roy L Hancock, 73, of Rome, a skilled machinist and proud U.S. Air Force veteran, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Born February 24, 1952, in Springdale, AR, he was a son of the late Elmer and Clara Mae (Rasmussen) Hancock. On October 23, 1987, he was united in marriage to Roseann Brockway.

Roy devoted much of his working life to his craft as a machinist, with longtime service at Rome Cable, Hubbard Tool and Die, and Hartman Enterprise. His hands could fix just about anything, and he took great pride in doing things the right way — the kind of person who never met a problem he couldn’t tinker his way through.

From 1979 to 1992, Roy served his country in the United States Air Force and was an electronic warfare systems technician, where he built lifelong friendships and a deep sense of discipline and pride.

Outside of work, Roy was an outdoorsman who found peace in nature and joy in carving and sculpting wood. He had a talent for turning a simple block of wood into something beautiful.

Those who knew Roy will forever miss his storytelling, his contagious laugh, and that unmistakable Arkansas accent that made every tale a little bit better.

Surviving besides his wife, Roseann, are two daughters, Tanya Peck (Gregory) and Ashley Hancock; three sons, Casey, Roy II and Ryan Hancock (Sierra); two brothers, Lloyd (Margaret) and Floyd Hancock (Paula); seven grandchildren, Alexander and Madisyn Peck, and Ryan Jr., Elena, Carter, Tyson and Raylin Hancock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours

Arrangements have been entrusted to  Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
