Roy Curtis Dow, 92, of Ackley, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at his home in Ackley with his beloved cat Lucy by his side. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley. 

Roy was born on November 22, 1932, in Laramie, Wyoming at his grandmother’s home. Roy was born to Roy Curtis Dow Sr and Savannah (Bonnie) Dow.

Roy grew up in North Park, Colorado working on the Schaffer Ranch with his father. Roy enjoyed fishing and hunting, he also enjoyed his horses and rode in Rodeos.

Roy enlisted in the Navy in 1951 there he saw many parts of the world. He became part of the Sea Bees which is the Navy’s Construction force. With them he built barracks in Cuba, and other projects elsewhere. Roy remained in the Service till 1956.

Upon returning from the Service Roy went to work for the Colorado State Highway Department in Denver Colorado. That is when he met Myrtle Allen, On April 19th, 1957, they got married in Raton, New Mexico. Roy missed being on a Ranch and took a job managing a Ranch in South Park. While he was on the Ranch he was offered a job working on the Dillon Dam project. Roy and Myrtle then moved to Fairplay, Colorado and lived there until the project was completed. When the project was complete, they then moved to Loveland, Colorado. Roy then worked various construction jobs. During this time Roy and Myrtle had been saving money and were able to purchase their farm near Eaton, Colorado. During the years they lived on the farm they raised Black Angus Cattle. In 1976 they sold the cattle. When Myrtle retired, they started Black Pines Sheep. They raised specialty breed sheep. Roy and Myrtle were instrumental in getting more Colored Sheep Shows started across the country. Roy helped many people get their flocks started. They traveled the Country Showing their Sheep from Coast to Coast.

When Myrtle passed away Roy moved to Iowa to live near his daughter and son-in-law.

Roy enjoyed Iowa very much, he loved to go for rides and see all the countryside. Roy was a very kind man and will be missed by many. Roy is survived by his daughter Joy Lynn (Jodi) Uthe, son-in-law Mark Uthe and cousin Glorina Edwards.

Roy was preceded in death by his sister Florene, Brother David, his parents Roy Curtis Dow Sr and Mother Savannah Dow, and his wife Myrtle Dow.
