Robert Edwin Klein, aka Bob, age 97, passed away on June 29, 2025 at his residence in Lake Bluff. Bob was the beloved husband to the late Shirley, nee Mack, a loving father to his six children; Suellyn Younkes (William), Robert, (Kim), Jamie VanHorssen (Scott Erickson), Jeff, Shawn Kmety (Mark), & Kimberly Dwyer (William). He was “Papa” to 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Born August 18, 1927, Bob attended schools in Chicago, graduated from Lane Tech High School, and went on to get his degree from University of Illinois. Bob enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1946 rank: Fireman First Class. Bob was a good friend to many; often called a “teddy bear”. He was a simple man who loved being around people. He was active in his mens club at church; serving as club President and “Santa” at the annual Christmas party. He loved to play games and he especially loved to play poker. He even started a Tuesday night poker group this past year with his friends where he lived. Bob enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends. He and Shirley traveled thousands of miles all over the world visiting many countries. He was adventurous; hunting and skiing in the mountains of Montana well into his late 60’s and early 70’s, scuba diving with friends in the Great Barrier Reef, zip lining in Puerto Vallarta at 87 years and skydiving in Florida at 89 years. Bob was an avid sports fan. He loved watching the Cubs and many other events on his TV and attended many in person.

Bob will be missed by many. May his family and friends find comfort knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the memories they have to cherish forever. Bob is now with Shirley in the arms of our Lord.
