Robert Hornak, Sr.

Robert J. Hornak Sr. , a beloved father, grandfather and friend peacefully passed away at home in Derwood, MD at the age of 76 on July 29, 2025 surrounded by his family. Bob was Born on September 14,1948 in Newark New Jersey.

Bob often told stories of his youth having started work at the age of 15 as a delivery driver for Nicholson Furs, a Machine Shop technician and at Esso.

After moving to Monroe County PA to raise his family, You could often find him at Polk Township Volunteer Fire Dept. pulling pranks on and with his friends. He was employed at Bethlehem Steel for many years. Never one to just sit around Bob often was working two to three “jobs” to make sure his family was provided for. Installing fire suppression systems, inspecting fire extinguishers, owning and operating “The Old Barn” and finally fulfilling a lifelong dream of working in law enforcement becoming a corrections officer Lieutenant at Monroe County Jail where he Retired at the age of 50.

In 2003 he left the cold winters of Pennsylvania behind and moved to the sunny climate of Myrtle Beach South Carolina. In 2015 he chose to move close to his grandchildren and enjoy watching them in their respective passions. He could always be found on the sidelines cheering them on at soccer games, gymnastics competitions, swim meets, dive meets and anything else they involved themselves in. They were a great source of pride.

Bob is survived by his two children Lorie Powell (Ben), Derwood MD and Robert J Hornak Jr., Crestview Florida, his four grandchildren Taylor, Makenzie , Riley and Carson Powell and his four legged pal Quin. He is preceded in death by his mother and step father Mildred and Leslie Blackburn.

Services will be held for Bob’s family privately.
