Robert A. Hobin, 68, of Barneveld, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. He was born in Utica on March 14, 1957, a son of Marion Hobin and raised by his grandparents, John and Nellie Hobin. He was married 50 years to the love of his life, Shirley Streiff Hobin.
Bob started out working for Agway in Holland Patent and Remsen before starting Hobin Construction. He devoted his life to his business and built many special homes and created many special relationships during his 40-year career as a contractor, none more special than the one he shared working alongside his son, Bobby Jr., for the last 34 years. His employees were like his family, PJ, Ryan, Kevin, Harvey, Mike, Ron, Joe, Buck, and grandson, Trent, among them.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Shirley, are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Amanda Hobin, Jr.; a daughter and son-in-law. Sarah and Lawrence Bizzarro; half-siblings, Jean Barnhart (Tom) and Ted Bell; grandchildren, Natalie and Trent Hobin and Maria and Michael Bizzarro; aunts and uncles who were more like his brothers and sisters, Irene Maciol, Helen and Roger Fox, Donna Hobin, John and Darlene Hobin, Dave Taubert, Larry and Mary Hobin, and Patti and Joe Kipp; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willard Streiff and Donna, Charles and Elaine Streiff, Beth Streiff, John Streiff, Fred Streiff, Minnie Coleman and Maynard, Jim Joslin, and Joe Gasper; many special nieces and nephews; and he was known as “Grandpa Bob” to many, including Aiden and Hailey Pinkos and James and Thomas Cooley. He was predeceased by his aunts, Myrtle Will and Louise Taubert; uncle, Irv Hobin and John Maciol; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gabe Streiff, Marilyn Joslin, Betty Ann Gasper, Ray Streiff, and Ed Streiff.
Bob’s family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care and special sister-in-law, Mary Hobin, for their wonderful care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23rd, from 1-4:00 p.m. at the Floyd Fire Hall, 8367 Old Floyd Rd., Rome NY 13440. There are no calling hours. Private interment will take place in Steuben Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob’s memory to The Weakley Foundation, 201 Graves Rd., Newport, NY, 13416.
