Ricky “Rick” McCracken, 67, went home to be with his Lord after a short battle with cancer on May 1, 2025. Rick was born on December 22, 1957 in Charleston and in 2018 relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Mille McCracken Dodson; wife, Shirley McCracken; sister, Verna Osborne; father-in-law, Ray Newman and sister-in-law, Denise Baker.

Rick is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Pam Newman of Walterboro, South Carolina and Travis and Michelle McCracken of Wilmington, North Carolina; his grandsons, Isaac and Reece McCracken of Wilmington, North Carolina and Collin Newman of Walterboro, South Carolina; his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Ray Parsons of Nitro; his favorite mother-in-law, Betty Newman of Belle and brothers-in-law, Donnie Newman, Kris and Kesha Newman of Belle and Todd Baker of Charleston. Rick had a whole host of nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Rick retired from the Kanawha County Assessor’s office in 2017 and then went back to work for Brunswick County Tax Department and retired from there in November 2023. Rick spent over 40 years pastoring and preaching the Gospel of Jesus, and as a hobby he loved to go fishing.

A special thank you to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice, both in home and in facility staff, for the amazing care they gave during his illness.

A service to honor and celebrate Rick’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Cornerstone Community Church (formally Mary Virginia Gospel Tabernacle) on George’s Creek Drive. Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. and the service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Randy Campbell officiating.
