Richard Allan McCauley, Sr., affectionately known as Rick to his friends and loved ones, departed this life on May 8, 2025, at his residence in Ellicott City, MD. Born on July 15, 1954, in Sandy Spring, MD, Rick was a pillar of kindness and generosity, whose loving nature touched many.
Rick was a devoted family man, survived by his cherished wife, Anna Marie (Albert) McCauley. His memory will be forever honored by his children, Richard Allan McCauley, Jr. (Tracy) of New Windsor, MD, Gennifer McCauley of Stafford, VA, Erica Eicher (Eric) of Dundalk, MD, and Daniela Dziewanowski of Baltimore, MD. He was a guiding light to his grandchildren, Stefanie Myers (JC), McKensi Sensibaugh, Benjamin McCauley-Lang, Nathaniel McCauley-Lang, Logan McCauley, and Killian Eicher, as well as his great-grandchildren, Bentley Myers and M.J. Myers.
Rick was predeceased by his mother, the late Ruth Eleanor (McCauley) Brady, and his brothers, John Wayne McCauley and Steven Garland Baker. His legacy is also carried on by his siblings, Margaret Lynn Collins (Tommy) of Chesapeake, VA, Marge Goldberg of Severn, MD, Thomas Gordon Baker (Anna Marie) of Ellicott City, MD, Debra Lynn Baker of Elkridge, MD, Tony Allan Baker of Dundalk, MD, and James Michael Baker of Berkley Springs, W VA. He is also survived by his niece and nephew, Benjamin S. and Christie M. Baker who were very special to him.
A proud graduate of Mt. Hebron High School in 1972, Rick’s dedication to his community was evident throughout his life. His service with the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department showcased his commitment to the safety and well-being of his neighbors. Rick’s career extended to the Howard County Circuit Court, where he worked diligently in the clerk’s office. He was also a self-employed security professional, providing peace of mind to those he served.
Rick’s involvement with the Howard County Fair was a testament to his love for his community and its traditions. His warm smile and helpful spirit were mainstays at the fairgrounds, making him a well-known and respected figure.
Those who knew Rick would describe him as the epitome of loving, kind, and generous. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. His presence was a comfort to all, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life was truly remarkable.
Rick’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. His unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his community, and his benevolent nature will be remembered and cherished.
As we bid farewell to Rick, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life full of love, laughter, and selfless service. His story is one of commitment to his loved ones, dedication to his work, and an enduring legacy of kindness.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Richard Allan McCauley, Sr., will be deeply missed, but the memories he created with us will be treasured forever. Rest in peace, dear Rick, until we meet again.
The family will receive friends, Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Slack Funeral Home, P.A., 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD. Funeral Services will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions in Rick’s name be directed to one of the 2 charities that were close to his heart, The Special Olympics of Maryland (www.support.specialolympics,org) or to Girls, Inc. (www.girlsinc.org)
