Richard Janke

Richard E. “Rick” Janke, age 63, a resident of Minooka, IL since 2017, formerly of Naperville, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 13, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 4, 1962, in Berwyn, IL.

Beloved husband of Deloris “Lori” Janke (nee Rehs), whom he married April 16, 1988, loving father of Eric (Jessica) Janke of Winfield, IL and Emily (Josh Kolof) Janke of Chicago, adored grandfather of Cameron Janke and to “grandpups”, Hazel and Colin, devoted son of Carolyn (nee Maass) and the late Russell Janke, son-in-law of Helene and the late John Rehs, fond brother of Susan (Allison Minugh) Janke and Doug (Ann) Janke, fond brother-in-law, nephew, cousin, uncle, great-uncle, and friend of many.

Rick worked as a self-employed electrician for over 40 years, building a loyal network of customers and forming lasting friendships with many of the people he met along the way. Known for his mechanical know-how, Rick was an avid gearhead who could fix just about anything. He was the go-to guy for friends and family whenever something broke, always ready with a tool in hand and a willingness to help.

He was a devoted husband to Lori, with whom he built a life full of love, laughter, and simple joys in their forever home. Together, they found happiness lounging in the pool, tending to their garden, and enjoying frequent “safety breaks” with a cold beer in hand.

Rick’s happiest moments were spent doing the things he loved most; sitting around the campfire, listening to music and sharing stories with friends and family, snowmobile trips up north, and early morning fishing with his son. When he wasn’t out enjoying nature, he could be found playing cards late into the night, always keeping score with precision. He also enjoyed spending time in his workshop, though more often than not, it was less about tinkering and more about standing around with friends, tools nearby, and good company even closer.

Above all, Rick found his greatest joy in being a father. Whether it was helping with homework, guiding his children through the challenges of becoming first-time homeowners, assisting with his daughter’s countless DIY projects, or offering support to his son as he became a father himself. Rick was always there with steady hands and a full heart.

To a man who meant so much to so many, Rick leaves behind a legacy defined by kindness, generosity, and a steady calm in moments of stress. His presence brought comfort and confidence to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, 2:00-5:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540.

Interment will be private.
