Reginale (Reggie) Leon Carter, 76, of San Diego, CA, passed away at home on Sunday, July 27, 2025, of natural causes.
He was born August 14, 1948, in Waterloo IA, the second son of Arthur L. Carter, Sr. and Susie Beltran.
Reggie graduated from Columbus High School, class of 1966, in Waterloo, IA. He was also the class president in his senior year. While attending Columbus, he was a multi-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track and field. He continued his education, attending Michigan State and playing basketball as a walk-on. He later transferred to Loras College in Dubuque, IA, and continued playing basketball. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Loras, he attended the University of Iowa and received his master’s degree in social work.
Upon graduation, he worked for Boys Town, an organization dedicated to helping at-risk children/families, and the Boys and Girls Club, both in Omaha, Nebraska. He later moved to San Diego and retired as a social worker, holding several positions throughout his career.
Reggie loved the game of golf. Many have stories about their time with him on the course, and he played well into his 70s.
Reggie was many things: a son, a brother, and an uncle, but most importantly, he was a loving father. He adored Samara, his only child, and was so proud of her.
Reggie is survived by his beloved daughter, Samara Carter of San Diego, CA; his sister, Valerie (Steve) Peterson of San Diego, CA; and his brothers Arthur Jr., of Orange County, CA; Michael of Waterloo, IA, and Stewart of Bettendorf, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Derrick Carter.
Reggie will be cremated, and a private memorial gathering will be held to honor his life.
