Rebecca Proffitt
Rebecca Ann Proffitt, 81, of Damascus, VA, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at her residence. She was born on December 1, 1943, in Fairfax County, VA, a daughter of the late Didier C. and Mary Ann Robertson Pfalzgraf. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill L. Proffitt, after 54 years of marriage; and two sisters, Carolyn Goad and Mary Munday.
She was a retired LPN after 58 years of service and was a former first responder and past president of the Mt. Rogers Volunteer Rescue and Fire Department. She loved canning vegetables and jams, baking, and gardening in her flower beds. She loved her irises and pigs. She enjoyed reading, watching DateLine and her court and animal shows and we can’t forget Dr. Pol!
Rebecca is survived by one son, Charles T. Proffitt and his wife, Hope; one daughter, Mary R. Proffitt; four grandchildren, Rebecca L. Simoni and her husband, Justin, Amanda M. Proffitt, Connor C. Proffitt, and Chase P. Proffitt; four great grandchildren, Sherrod J. Ware, Jasmine M. Simoni, Joelle R. Simoni, and Jeremiah M. Simoni; one sister, Betty Marshall and her husband, Ronnie; one brother, Didier C. “Dion” Pfalzgraf, Jr. and his wife, Alice; and several nieces , nephews, cousins, and so many close friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm Friday, May 30, 2025 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm Friday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor Julian Owens officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Green Cove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Mt. Rogers Volunteer Rescue and Fire Department, P.O. Box 47, Whitetop, VA 24292.
