Obituary – Raymond Raul Black

Raymond Raul Black, age 69, the son of Earl Jefferson and Berdena Germaine (Wadsworth) Black, was born December 11, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa. He died at his Leon, Iowa home on May 9, 2025.

Raymond graduated from Murray, Iowa high school. He was handy with small engines, mowed yards, plowed gardens, and collected various items. He enjoyed working on cars. He also had an artistic side drawing with colored pencils, he especially enjoyed drawing cars how he thought they should look. He also was a nature photographer. In the 1970’s, Raymond had a motorcycle accident.

He was married to Jackie Belzer then Mary Elizabeth Stanley. He and Mary had three sons, Earl, Raymond, and Neal. They later were adopted by other families, Earl and Raymond by Veneta Snethen and Neal by the Lynch family. He later was in a relationship with Ruth Morlan; he took care of her until her death in 2012.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and siblings, Patricia McGeehee, William “Bill” Black, Robert “Bob” Black, infant Donald Black, and half brother, Daniel Black. Survivors include his sons, Earl and Raymond, both of Des Moines, Iowa and Neal of Winterset, Iowa; grandson, Oden Black; sisters, Pam Gillson of Murray and Rose Black of Leon; brother, Doug Black and wife, Sara of Murray; and other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon.
