A Women’s March demonstration is planned for this Saturday at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City, in a coordinated effort with capitals around the country as part of the ongoing 50501 protests.
The demonstration is held on International Women’s Day, which typically sees a day of protests and demonstrations around the world.
This year, there are around 300 events scheduled according to the Women’s March organization.
The Carson City event is purported to run from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the capitol complex on Carson Street.
Motorists and community members are advised to be aware that during this time period, traffic on Carson Street downtown will be slowed out of safety.
Since the first 50501 protest, during which a motorist allegedly pointed a gun at a group of protesters, there has been an increased law enforcement presence downtown for each of the subsequent protests, and there have been no more reports of violent encounters.
According to law enforcement, the motorist was investigated and the case was forwarded to the Carson City District Attorney’s Office who will decide how to proceed with charges.
The 50501 movement is described as a “decentralized rapid response to anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies” on their website.
“In just days, grassroots organizers — without any budget, centralized structure, or official backing — pulled off over 80 peaceful protests in all 50 states,” organizers wrote.
The idea of 50 protests in 50 states on one day started on reddit under the subreddit r/50501, and has now evolved from “50 protests, 50 states, 1 day” to “50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement.”
