A dazzling mix of vehicle ingenuity, chrome, shine and plenty of shade are on full display today, Saturday, at the 38th Run What Cha Brung car show at Mills Park in Carson City.

This annual classic hotrod show, among a handful of favorite summertime car events around Northern Nevada, is presented by the Karson Kruzers car club. At least a hundred vehicles of all kinds are on display throughout Mills Park.

All are welcome to the show, which is free for public viewing. Along with the incredible vehicles participating, there’s a live DJ spinning tunes, food trucks, venders, raffles, silent auction and more. The show runs all day until around 4:30 p.m.

The hotrod event has been a staple of Northern Nevada car shows since the late 1980s when, during the first few years, was attended by mostly other car club members.

“In the early years, our show had been a word-of-mouth event,” said Loretta Marcin, president of Karson Kruzers.

The popularity of the show only grew as it became a three-day event held at Fuji Park. But as times change and organizers grew a little older, it was scaled back around four years ago to a single day event at Mills Park.

What can people expect Saturday? Cars, trucks, motorcycles and more, whether they’re vintage, new or anything built in a garage.

This show is for anyone who appreciates the ingenuity vehicles. Marcin likens attending Run What Cha Brung as similar to walking through a museum or attending an art show.

“I’ve always said the vehicles are like works of art,” she said.

There’s even a “Kids Special Interest” event where children can enter (free with a parent), anything on wheels, including bicycles, pedal cars, scooters and skateboards.

As for judging, there are a number of events, including the kids event, the sheriff’s pick and the “BJ Barnhurst Memorial” that is presented by Jane Barnhurst, wife of the late BJ Barnhurst, an original Karson Kruzer.

The special award is in memory of past members “who are kruzing in Heaven now,” said Marcin.
