Peter Filipionek

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peter Filipionek, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta.

Peter was born in Blyth, England on October 14, 1950, and moved to Canada at the age 7, where the family then settled in Forest Lawn, Alberta.

Peter made a career and supported his family as a journeyman welder. He had a distinguished reputation for his skills in the field, working in management for the oil and gas industry, his teaching and guidance also brought many young apprentices to successful levels.

He was responsible for many notable projects, one being that he constructed the overhead catwalks in the current Saddledome.

Peter’s talents were not limited to his welding skills, he had a fine hand for drawing, building, doing home renovations, a true DIY kinda guy.

In his younger years, he was a passionate bird hunter, spending many early mornings camouflaged in duck blinds with his father and son.

In later years, he enjoyed a good round of golf with beers in hand or relaxing on the shorelines catching fresh trout for supper. On warm summers eve, you would often find him around a campfire with his best buddy strumming the guitar and Peter singing any classic Elvis song.

Peter had the voice of an angel.

Peter is lovingly remembered by his life partner Angie, his son Troy (Shari), daughter Tammy (Dave), his stepdaughter Lacey (Bruce), and his sisters Brenda (Reno) and Shelley (Calvin). He will be missed by his grandchildren Brandon (Katerina), Cassidy (Cedric), Josh (Erica), Brody and Brantley and his great granddaughter Summer, and his good dawg Molly. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A grieving family isn’t always blood.

Peter’s lifelong bond with friends Leonard and Cindy and family also survive Peter’s memory.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the amazing caregivers at the Vulcan hospital and Arthur Child Cancer Centre for the incredible care they provided Peter with and for their true compassion and tenderness with family during this difficult journey.

Family has chosen to plan a memorial at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Peter’s name to the Arthur Child/Alberta Cancer Foundation.
