Putnam – Paul R. Zamaites, 77, of Putnam, CT passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on April 22, 2025. Paul is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, his daughter Shauna Griffin, his granddaughter Madi Griffin, his brother John and his wife Jean. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that he cherished.
Paul served in the United States Coast Guard and was a C130 navigator. Paul was proud to be a veteran of the armed services and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel 64.
Paul was a 10th Dan Black Belt in karate and ran a karate school for many years. Through his teaching, Paul touched many lives and formed incredible bounds with his students that lasted his lifetime.
Paul was an active member of Saint Mary’s church in Putnam, CT and loved singing in the choir. Paul loved to travel and going to vineyards near and far with the “crew”. He also loved spending time at the cape with cherished friends. Paul enjoyed life; a good meal, card games with friends, watching a movie and petting all the animals, especially his girl Bonnie. Paul has touched so many lives in his years and will be remembered for his guidance and his generous spirit. Paul will be missed dearly by all who loved him.
The family would like to thank the Hartford Healthcare at Home, his aids Heather, Stephen, and Kenneth, and especially the Providence VA Medical Center staff who took amazing care of Paul throughout the years. A special thank you to the Veterans Home Care team.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Paul’s family from 9am to 10am on Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam, CT 06260. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10am. Burial to follow at St. Rochs Cemetery in Oxford, Massachusetts.
