Patty B Hammond, 90, passed away on April 15, 2025, in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born October 27, 1934 to Hazel L. Murray and Thomas Smith. Sr. in Emporia, Kansas. She grew up with three brothers; Willard, Thomas, and Eddie and three sisters; Kathryn, Mabel, and Helen. She told her nieces that she was never alone in the house, there was always someone with her.
She was married to Myron Hammond in Emporia, Kansas at St James Baptist Church. They moved to Junction, Kansas where Myron was part of a large family. Patty grew close to the Hammond family and was very close to Phyllis Hammond Cook.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings.
Patty enjoyed cooking and worked in the Junction City School System Food Service. She was known by her family to always be frying chicken on Sundays after church, no matter what side dish she was preparing, it was chicken, but for family reunion, she would cook goulash or meat loaf.
She grew up singing in the church choir as a child and an adult. She sang in the Junction City Community Singers directed by Minnie Boyd.
She was a member of St James Missionary Baptist Church in Emporia, Kansas, Second Missionary Baptist and First Church of God in Junction City, Kansas. She was very supported of her pastor and whenever he preached out of town, she would have a niece drive her to where he was speaking.
Patty had a sweet spirit, and she loved her family, but Jesus was the center of her life and she trusted Him until the end.
To celebrate her home going are her nieces and nephews. She has radiated love throughout her life! What an example for this generation to follow, HALLELUJAH!
