Oscar Cowart

Oscar James Cowart was born March 29, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a high school graduate.

He and his wife, Jeanette Cowart, were blessed with two children. They later moved to Gainesville, and he worked as a custodian at Shands Hospital.

On March 31, 2025, the Lord closed Oscar’s weary eyes and whispered “Come unto me and rest.”

Precious memories will live on in the hearts of his son, Troy Mays. His daughter, Brenda Cowart, preceded her father in death. He is survived by ten grandchildren; sister Christine Martin and brother-in-law Kennith Martin; brother Johnny Mobley; sister Donna Mobley and her husband, James Hatley; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends on Third Street, Eloise, Gwen, Tana, Abiola, Baba, Ted, and Keydrum.
