Memorial services for Monte Everett Gometz, 71, of Carrollton, Georgia will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 3 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. David McCracken officiating. There will be no Graveside Service at Carroll Memory Gardens.
After a short illness, our brother in the Lord transitioned on August 26, 2025 in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, friends and family.
Survivors include brothers, Ron and Randy Gometz, of Wedowee, AL, Terre Haute, IN; respectively, nephews, Bryan, Gator and Chris Gometz; nieces, Sarah Christine Schlott and Melissa Christine Moore; aunt, Danna Sartain of Nevada; cousins, Linda McFarland of Jacksonville, FL and Vicki Haley of Eastman, GA. There are numerous second and third cousins, great nieces and nephews as well.
Monte was the middle of three sons born to Dorotha J. and Ronald E. Gometz on January 28, 1954 in Oakland, CA. Mr. Gometz graduated from Orange Park High School, Orange Park, FL (Class of 1972). In 1971, Monte was selected as one of American’s top 5,000 high school students as published in the annual publication “Outstanding Teenagers of America.” He later moved to Carrollton, GA in 1986, attending and graduating from the University of West Georgia (Cum laude) with a degree in Criminology. Mr. Gometz was employed by both Houghton Chemical and the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. Monte was a devout Christian by faith and a longstanding member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Carrollton, and a past member of Oak Grove’s Praise and Worship Band as a guitarist. Besides Christ, Monte’s passion was always music.
In lieu of flowers, Monte has asked that all expressions of love be donated to his beloved church, Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2829 Oak Grove Church Road, Carrollton, GA 30117 or the Carroll County Animal Shelter, 251 Automation Drive, Carrollton, GA 30117.
