Monica Nevin

Monica Nevin passed away with her sisters by her bedside on July 26, 2025, at the age of 86.

Monica was born in Manhattan, NY, in 1938, to Monica and James Nevin.

She attended Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School in the Bronx, NY. Monica attended and graduated from Aquinas High School in the Bronx, NY in 1954. Immediately after graduation, Monica entered the Religious Order of the Dominican Sisters. During this time, she attended St. Thomas Aquinas College and also the Catholic University of Washington DC.

Monica obtained her Teaching Degrees in both Math and Child Guidance. As a Dominican Sister, she taught grade school in Maryland for many years. Upon leaving the Religious Order, Monica continued to pursue her teaching career. Monica moved to the Yorktown School District where she taught at Mildred E. Strang Middle School until she retired in 1994.

One of the many highlights of her retirement was traveling. Monica belonged to travel and bridge clubs as well as being involved with her friends in many other activities; but, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. Following her retirement, Monica then realized her love of teaching and therefore found private tutoring her passion.

Monica is survived by her sisters, Geraldine Metrick (Poughkeepsie) and Kathleen Theret (Yonkers) as well as many nieces and nephews. Monica will be remembered as a kind, loving and generous person who loved her family deeply and she will be greatly missed.

If you were to ask Monica’s friends, they would tell you she loved rescuing cats and had adopted many over the years.

Private services will be held for immediate family.
