Mildred “Millie” Etter

Mildred “Millie” L. Etter, 74 of Ashland, passed away at 2:40 pm, Saturday, June 7, 2025 at her home. She was born July 20, 1950 in Springfield, the daughter of George John, Jr. and Iva Marie (Pope) Nilhas. She married George John Etter II on December 17, 1971 and he survives.
Also surviving are three children, Stefanie (George “Bill”) Sprinkel, Shawn Michael Etter, and Heather Etter all of Springfield; two grandchildren, Liam and Bethanie Sprinkel both of Springfield; one sister, Joan Gettings of Illiopolis; one brother, Kenneth (Mari) Nilhas of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Mary (Richard) Patrick of Rochester and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Barbara Nation and Ann Floyd and one brother-in-law, David Etter, Jr.
Millie is a Tri City graduate and has been a resident of Ashland since 1986. She retired from Greco Sales as a bookkeeper after 20 years of service. She previously worked for 20 years at Barker Lubin, and after retirement went to work part time for Refreshment Services, Inc. for Pepsi-Cola products.
Millie was of the Methodist faith and was a woman who enjoyed the simple things in life. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and puzzle books. The most important thing in her life was her family and being the best wife, mother, and grandmother.
Graveside Service: 11 am, Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Following the committal service a Celebration of Millie’s Life will be held at the VFW Post 10302, 2349 Stockyard Rd., Springfield, IL 62702.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
