Melissa Friedman

Melissa Joy Friedman, age 67, passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2025; surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 12, 1955, Melissa was the only child of John Robert Cook, Lenore Cook. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, cherished by her family and friends she’s made over the years.

Melissa was warm, and genuine. She would give you the clothes off her back to help you out in any situation. When she spoke to you, she spoke for you and encouraged anyone to do better for themselves. When Melissa gave her time, and her wisdom it was like the Golden Star.

Melissa dedicated her entire professional life working in the Bronx at 721x school until her well-deserved retirement. Throughout her ca-reer, she became a beloved friend and mentor to countless children, particularly those with disabil-ities. Her compassion and commitment to their growth and well-being left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

In addition to her dedication to education, Melissa had a profound love for animals, and she tirelessly advocated for their venture, always seeking ways to help those in need. Her kindness and generous spirit touched everyone she met. Melissa is survived by her husband Lenoard Friedman, and loving son Ross Friedman. She will be deeply missed; with the lives she enriched at Friedwald Center and the animal centers in Rockland County.
