Maurene Feaster

Maurene Murphy Feaster, of Wamego, KS, passed away on July 9, 2025 in Wamego, KS.

Maurene was born March 16, 1926, the daughter of Harry E. and Elizabeth A. (Prather) Murphy, in Coffeyville, KS. She was raised in Emporia, KS and graduated from Emporia High School in 1943 and from Emporia State University in 1947. She and William P. (Bill) Saffell were united in marriage on August 9, 1947. Together they had six children. They moved to Wellington, KS in 1954 for 10 years and later returned in 1974. Maurene worked at The Fashion and the Wellington Public Library. She served as an Elder and a deaconess with the First Christian Church in Wellington. She was a member of Chapter ET PEO for over 75 years and was honored with a luncheon for 75 years of membership in 2021. Maurene was united in marriage with James D. (J.D.) Feaster on April 20, 1996. Following The death of her second husband, Maurene lived with her son, Mark, and wife, Angie, in Mustang, OK for three years. She moved to Wamego in August 2024.

Maurene is survived by two daughters, Carol Ruiz (Steve) of Basalt, CO and Barbara Huse (Norm) of Wamego, KS and three sons, Mike Saffell (Lori) of Wellington, KS, Mark Saffell (Angie) of Mustang, OK and Steve Saffell (Dana) of Wellington, KS; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Pat Siemens (Joe) of Arvada, CO, one step-son, 10 step grandchildren, and 18 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Bill Saffell, in April 1989, her second husband, J.D. Feaster, in December 2019, her daughter, Kay Cox, grandson, Sam Cox, great granddaughters, Olive and LylaRae Hearnen and step son, Stephen Feaster.

A private family service will be held at a later date. No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers please support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Tunnel to Towers Foundation in her memory.
