Matthew Curran

On Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, Matthew Curran passed away peacefully at Cortlandt Healthcare Rehab. He was eighty-six years old.

Matthew was born to Matthew and Kate Curran (née Connelly) in Knocknagreine, County Galway, Ireland in 1938. He emigrated to New York City with his brother, John, in 1960. He was a doorman at his treasured Imperial House at 150 East 69th Street for 44 years where he interacted daily with Howard Cosell and Liza Minnelli.

On July 6th, 1963, he married Kathleen Lenihan at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in the Bronx. For the next thirty-seven years they lived in their beloved 60 East 196th Street apartment building. After both getting COVID, climbing four flights was too much for them, and with heavy hearts, they moved to Hillcrest Commons in Carmel, NY

Matthew is survived by his son, Matthew and his wife Sue of Yorktown Heights and his daughter, Cathy and her husband John of Mahopac. He was known as “PopPops” to his five grandchildren: Meaghan, Patrick, Kieran, Samantha, and Ryan. Matthew also leaves behind his loving brother Dermot and sister-in-law Joan from Chicago, Illinois.

Matthew is now reunited in heaven with his wife Kathleen and those who preceded him in death: his parents Matthew and Kate, his sisters Bridie and Julia, and his brothers Charlie and John, and many other beloved family and friends.
