Mary Renner

Mary was born to Karl Vincent and Lydia Helen Vasicek in Gainesville, GA, on July 19th, 1934. Mary had an older brother, Karl Vincent Vasicek, Jr. The family lived in Salt Lake City, UT, and Lawrence, KS, before settling in Denver. Mary attended Byers Jr High, South High School, and Colorado Women’s College in Denver.

Mary worked as a secretary at her father’s business while attending school and later at the Denver Dry Goods, the Denver Clinic, and Accord Medical Center until her retirement.

At 19 years old, Mary met Carl Renner, who was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. After a ten-month courtship, they married at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Denver. She said that their most memorable wedding gift was a dollar bill that her father tore in two, giving each of them half. Carl still carries his half in his wallet. Three children, Robert, Linda, and Susan, came shortly after. The family lived in Denver for several years before moving to Lakewood.

Mary is survived by her husband, Carl, and two of her children, Robert (Connie) and Linda (Brian). She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and youngest daughter, Susan. Mary was a grandmother to seven and a great-grandmother to seven, with an eighth arriving in July.

Her seven grandchildren remember her having a contagious and infectious laugh. She was goofy and silly and had the most unforgettable and beautiful smile that could light up any room. She was gentle, loving, and kind-hearted, with a classic Southern “bless your heart” attitude that made everyone feel welcome and cared for. Though some of them lived out of state, she never felt distant. Her cards, calls, and visits made it so they always felt her love. She cared for all of them deeply. To match her sweet nature, she loved sweets and always had candy. She was the kindest woman they had ever known.

Mary loved her Lord and her family. We take great comfort in knowing that she is at peace and free from all suffering.

Wife, Mother, Grammy, and Great-Grandma Mary — while she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the love she gave so freely and the faith she carried through all seasons of life. We will miss her every single day until we are together again.
