Mary Martha Bockoven Perez, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in Casa Grande, Arizona, due to a health condition. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 22, 1947, to Harold Dwight Bockoven and Alma Ella Beach, Mary’s early years were filled with the warmth of close-knit family ties. Though it pained her to leave her beloved grandmother Carrie and her cousins when her family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, it was there that she encountered a serendipitous twist of fate.
At the tender age of 16, while working at a local movie theater, Mary experienced love at first sight with Antonio Perez. Their whirlwind romance led to a lifelong partnership, and they exchanged vows on February 20, 1964. Their marriage stood as a testament to true devotion, with the couple inseparably holding hands through every moment of their 61 years together, a union that only strengthened as time went on.
Mary and Antonio were blessed with three children: Antonio Dwight Perez, Mary Ella Perez, and Geneva Lillian Perez. Mary’s nurturing spirit shone through her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her beauty, accentuated by her striking blue eyes, captivated the hearts of those around her until her final days.
The family’s journey was intertwined with Antonio’s career with the Santa Fe Railroad, which took them to various towns but always anchored them to their home in Winslow, Arizona. In their golden years, they settled in Casa Grande, where they relished the simple pleasures of family dinners, scenic drives, and each other’s company.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her husband, Antonio; daughters, Mary Perez and Geneva (Ernest Rodriguez); seven grandchildren, Anissa, Gabriel, Antonio, Emmanuel, John, Marina, and Alberto; and ten great-grandchildren, Antonio, Audyanna, Johnny, Audyciela, Augustin, Xavier, Alsina, Azul, Isabella, and Avery. She now joins in peace her parents, Harold and Alma; grandmother, Carrie; son, Antonio; and granddaughter, Angelina.
A self-directed learner, Mary achieved her GED on December 27, 1985, with a remarkable score of 4.75, a testament to her sharp intellect and determination. Her professional life was marked by compassion as she cared for children with disabilities at a local hospital and later as an Avon representative. Eventually, Mary found her calling as a housewife and stay-at-home mom, where she poured her heart into nurturing her family.
A devout Christian, Mary’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting intricate doll dresses and blankets, and creating beautiful table doilies. Her greatest joy was her family, each member a cherished treasure that brought her immense pride and happiness.
In the words of Helen Keller, “What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Mary’s legacy of love, care, and joy will forever be an integral part of the lives she touched.
Mary Martha Bockoven Perez’s life was a tapestry of love, devotion, and service, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all.
