Marion (Sonny) Spiers Jr., 79, of Maysville, MO, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Quail Run Healthcare Center, after a brief battle with Alzheimer’s.
Marion was born July 17, 1945, to Martha (Evans) and Marion Spiers Sr., at The Campbell Place, at Fairport, Missouri. He graduated from Maysville High School and from Platte College with an accounting degree. He sold parts for International.
On July 9, 1966, Sonny, as he was affectionately known by family members, married Cynthia Lowry at the First Baptist Church in Maysville. They became the parents of three children. After graduation and marriage, he continued working on the family farm, until the birth of his sons, when he began working at Crouser International in St. Joseph, Mo. he worked for International companies for 50 years. The young family lived in Elwood, KS, St. Joseph, MO, Grand Island, NE, and back to Maysville, MO.
Sonny loved everything classic cars, including being part of The Millmasters Hotrod club with his high school friends, something he remembered until death. He enjoyed woodworking and cutting wood. He was an expert at identifying trees and knowing how to cut them or which were edible. He loved mushrooms (morel and elephant ears), and making dandelion wine in the basement, as well as many more outdoor activities.
Preceding Sonny in death were his parents, Marion Spiers Sr. and Martha Evans Spiers; the love of his life, Cynthia Spiers; brother Randy Spiers; and cousin Helen Louise Evans (Weeze).
Surviving are siblings, Lyndia (Spiers) Wykert, Pamela (Spiers) Wykert, Richard Spiers, and Marsha (Spiers) Smith; sons, Marion (Joe) Spiers III, Jonathan Spiers; daughter, Sarah Spiers; numerous grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. So many people cared about him and looked up to him. Sonny is also survived by his loyal canine companion, Sir Bors.
Memorial services will be 1:00 P.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Maysville with Visitation following the service until 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Alzheimer’s Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
