Marilyn Nadine Saker, age 68, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 26, 2025 at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. She was born May 23, 1957 in Duluth, Minnesota, a daughter of the late Wayne and Shirley Saker.
Marilyn was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife and teacher. She also possessed an unwavering devotion to her cats, Nefertiti, Indira & Hypatia and her dog Charley.
In 1975 she graduated from Northwestern High School, Maple, Wisconsin.
She earned degrees from UW-Superior, Southern Methodist University and the University of Wisconsin. After graduating from Wisconsin, she was added as a co-author by Bruce Benward for his text book Music in Theory and Practice. Dr. Benward was Marilyn’s primary professor while she attended the University of Wisconsin.
Her career as a college music professor spanned 37 years at Iowa State, Northern Michigan and Eastern Michigan. She also played flute, piano and harpsichord.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Mark; brother, Timothy (Amber) Saker; sister, Valerie Saker; nephew and niece Michael (Ellen) Saker, Elizabeth (George) Goddard and their mother, Lori Davey who all loved and miss her.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iron River, Wisconsin. Visitation begins at 10 AM followed by an 11 AM service. There will also be a graveside service and a luncheon.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen, WI.
