With deep love and sorrow, the family of Maria Del Socorro Cavazos announces her peaceful passing on October 16, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Mission, Texas, Socorro lived a joyful life filled with faith, family, and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jorge Raphael Cavazos, and is survived by her children Jorge (Cathy), Gilbert, and Anna (John); grandchildren Cody, Carson, Miranda, Marco, Connor, and Zoey; and sisters Olga, Tencha, and Bertha.
Known affectionately as the Casino Queen, Socorro loved the thrill of the slot machines almost as much as she loved cooking for her family. Her legendary tamales—made with care and shared with everyone—were a hallmark of her love.
She will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and generosity, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love that will live on in all who knew her.
