Marguerite June Archibald was born in Kingston June 14, 1926 to parents Anna (Timmerman) and Walter Archibald and sadly passed away at Providence Manor on October 16, 2025 at the age of 99.
June graduate from Kingston General Hospital and Western University and enjoyed a long and successful career in nursing with meaningful roles from Head Nurse to Director of Nursing positions.
June and her dear friend and lifelong partner Vera Griffith chose early retirement and spent over fifty years at their beloved “Trinity” cottage on Silver Lake where they shared their little piece of paradise and their hospitality with many friends and relatives over the years. When they weren’t at Trinity cottage they were busy maintaining their huge garden at Vera’s parents in Carleton Place.
June was a tall and imposing figure and was an avid swimmer and canoeist who treasured her 16 foot cedar strip canoe made by the Peterborough Canoe Company in the 40’s. Her canoe was given to her by her father and a favourite story was how, in her younger days, she and and her cousin Beryl Kerr paddled from Kingston to Ottawa through the canals camping along the way.
June was very creative and showed her talents in a variety of ways – she could create a mouth watering dish, sketch and paint, and take apart and reassemble a motor as easily as blinking an eye. She lived a full and active life and even as dementia took its toll she took pride in her appearance and maintained her love of the outdoors.
June will be missed by her sister Marion Reid (Wood), her life partner and friend Vera Griffith, and many other relatives and friends.
