Mamie Huizenga

Mrs. Mamie Elizabeth Houck Huizenga, age 90, of West Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, September 12, 2025, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 1, 1935 in Ashe County to the late Stace Noble Houck and Nellie Wilcox Houck.

Mamie was a faithful member of Zion Church of Mill Creek. She worked for many years in the accounting department for property management. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose family meant everything to her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00am at Zion Church of Mill Creek with Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Hildebran.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel.

She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Lapinne (Michael) of West Jefferson; her brother, Bill Houck (Jean) of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren, Joni Weaver (Joseph Poliandro), Michelle Huizenga (Michael Harkabus), Karina Sanchez (Omar), Randi Pritchard (Peyton), Adam Joel Huizenga, Jake Blejski, Daulton Huizenga (Taylor), Michael Blejski, and Tawny Huizenga; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Huizenga, Jr.; a daughter, Susan Nolte; two sons, Tony Huizenga and Michael Huizenga; two grandchildren, Benjamin Nolte and Beth Weaver; two brothers, John Houck and Tony Houck; a sister, Wanda Blackwell; and an aunt, but loved like a sister, Kathleen Krider.
