Lyon County deputies, fire and Navy personnel detonate dynamite discovered at Silver Springs home

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at approximately 1:10 PM, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a resident in Silver Springs regarding the discovery of explosives at a recently purchased property.
Deputies from the Central Command and personnel from the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District responded to the 4400 block of West Fir Avenue in Silver Springs. Upon arrival, first responders confirmed the presence of multiple sticks of dynamite in an outbuilding on the property.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team from Naval Air Station Fallon was requested to assist and responded to the scene. During their assessment, additional hazardous items were located on the property.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Team from Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon conducted a controlled detonation of the explosives discovered earlier today in Silver Springs.
Central Lyon County Fire Department personnel remained on scene assisting Navy EOD personnel in monitoring the area for any potential secondary fires. Fire crews also remained on-site until all fire threats were fully mitigated.
