Luther Meekins, Jr.

Luther Hall “Buddy” Meekins, Jr., a lifelong resident of Hatteras Island, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, in Nags Head, NC, at the age of 80. Born on April 4, 1945, in Avon, NC, Buddy was a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man.

Buddy was a proud graduate of Cape Hatteras High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army. His professional life was dedicated to Crum Construction in Buxton, NC.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myla Tolson Meekins; his parents, Luther Hall Meekins and Ila Miller Meekins; his sister, Ann Gray; and his brother, Stanley Meekins.

Buddy is survived by his son, Scott Meekins, and daughter-in-law, Michele, as well as his treasured grandchildren, Connor Meekins, Josh Lochrie, and Joanna Lochrie. He also leaves behind three sisters, Mary Wilson, Merita McPherson, and Shirley Silver, and one brother, Winifred “Winnie” Meekins.

A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the lasting impact, he made on those around him.

Buddy’s legacy of love, dedication, and service will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
