At a young age, the family moved from the Midwest to Selah, Washington, to seek a better life. Lois attended Selah schools and graduated in 1941. Lois enrolled in Business College and graduated with a 2 year degree. She was employed by the Yakima County ASC office, as a secretary.

Lois met her husband, Loren Cummings, while working at the Yakima Court House. They were married on November 8, 1958. They lived on a 40-acre ranch in West Valley, where they raised three children.

Lois stayed home to raise her children. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and driving kids to sports activities. Lois was very involved in the Selah United Methodist Church, in which she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was 50 + year member of the Selah Heights Grange.

Loren and Lois loved camping, fishing, and traveling with family and friends, especially to Hawaii, Washington Coast, and Sunriver, Oregon.
